TRAINERS CHASE CHELTENHAM GLORY

Wednesday, March 17th

Leading trainers Paul Hennessy and Martin Lanney and owner Jason Pollard will be hoping for a sporting success of a totally different kind when Doctor Deejay goes to post today. But it won’t be at a greyhound track, rather will it be the hallowed turf of Cheltenham on the second day of the annual Festival.
Doctor Deejay is trained by Willie Mullins and is a well fancied contender for the Fred Winter Juvenile Novices Handicap Hurdle with Paul Townend in the saddle.
Already a winner at Gowran Park and runner-up in a Grade 3 event at Punchestown, Doctor Deejay is quoted early morning at 12-1 but connections are hoping that he can make the frame.
Given Hennessy’s sporting allegiance, it is no surprise that the horse is named after all-time hurling great D.J. Carey, both a friend and neighbour of the Gowran trainer.
Doctor Deejay could well be the first leg of a big UK double for Hennessy who has Group Skater contesting the semi-final of the Grand Prix at Henlow tomorrow evening.
